J.W. Carpenter was CSA General Magruder's Wagon Master for four years.    After the War, he moved to Texas and became a Deputy Sheriff in Palo Pinto, Texas in 1871.   In 1880, my GG Grandfather, Judge S.B. Cantey, Sr. of Fort Worth, Texas, purchased the Cantey Ranch; 5000 acres for $1.00 an acre in Palo Pinto County, Texas from Carpenter's successor, Deputy Sheriff W.K. Bell.
