Crawford Goldsby, Alias Cherokee Bill (seen in the middle of the photo with large hat and smile on his face) was a half breed Indian, part Cherokee and part African American. He became an outlaw at 18. He was involved in Robbery, murder of law enforcement officers, robbery of Wells Fargo Express company and train robbery, bank robbery, a post office, a general store, etc. He was an all around bad character.  He was arrested in 1895, convicted, escaped, recaptured. He was sentenced by Judge Isaac Parker to be hanged on September 10, 1895. The hanging was delayed until March 17, 1896. When asked on the gallows if he had anything to say, he replied, "I came here to die, not to make a speech". He was hanged. The man on the far right wearing the fedora hat is Marshal Smith of Fort Smith, Ark. The man next to him is Marshal Smiths deputy, Isaac Rogers. The man next to Rogers is Clint Scales, a black man.  To the left of Cherokee Bill is Zeke Crittendon and next to him is his brother Dick Crittendon wearing the badge.  The photograph was taken by E.D. Macfee at Wagoner, Indian Territory.
