This is a post card image of a staged hanging of a cattle thief. The sign reads: "Cattle Thief 500 Reward" and the ranch name. The victim is a dummy, not a man. I believe this was done to give a warning to cattle thieves that this would happen to them if caught on this range. Reward, circa 1900, was BIG money in that time.
