This is one of the most famous original photos in American Western History. It was taken by Rhine, Ft. Worth, Tex between 1876-1879. It is Fort Worth City Marshal "Long Hair Jim" Courtright. Notice the fine suspension law badge he wears.  I have never seen another original copy but it has been published many times. This photograph belonged to his daughter, LuLu May Courtright Hart.  He was a gambler, a gunfighter, a lawman, a private detective, and a gangster all in one. He was outdrawn by Luke Short and killed outside the White Elephant Saloon in 1887 in Fort Worth, Texas.  He is buried on the North side of Fort Worth, Texas. My own father and some other relatives are buried in the same cemetery. We arrived in Fort Worth from Alabama in 1878.
