In this CDV Tiburcio Vasquez in shown in the bottom middle. Just above his head is where he was captured. The man above the building, in the top middle is the Sheriff who captured him. The other men are posse members and others involved with his capture. Any photograph of Vasquez is very rare and hard to obtain. Vasquez was a California Bandito from 1854 to 1874. He was involved in murder and horse rustling. He organized his own gang in 1870. He was shot and wounded at that time in a gunfight with Santa Cruz police officer Robert Liddell. He escaped and was nursed back to health by is sister. In 1873 he and his gang killed three innocent bystanders in Snyder's store in Tres Pinos, San Benito County, California and stole $2,200.00. He became very popular in the Mexican-American Community who hid him out and protected him. He was captured on May 14, 1874 at the home of "Greek George" Caralambo by Sheriff William R. Rowland and his posse after he was turned in by someone in the house. He stood trial in San Jose, California. He was found guilty of murder and sentenced to hang. He was hanged on March 19, 1875.
