This is a rare, original CDV photograph of actor Alf Johnson. He was a member of the theater group in 1873/1874 with Bill Cody, Bill Hickok, and Jack Omohundro. Eventually, he replaced Hickok when Hickok became disillusioned on the stage after a few appearances. This image is signed on the reverse "Faithfully Yours, Alf Johnson" in period ink. It was taken by the Theatrical Photographing Company, Philadelphia. It dates circa 1873.
