Excellent, clear stereo view of Virginia City, Montana Territory in the 1870-1880 period. You can see the main street going through it here. Buildings on both sides. Virginia City was established circa 1863 as a gold mining town. A very large amount of gold was mined there. It was also an open, wild, often ruthless, and baudy early town in the territory with saloons and houses for "fancy ladies". It was the home of bad characters such as Henry Plummer and the famous 1860's Montana Vigilantes who cleaned up the area using John X. Biedler as the hangman. I have some view of this town in my Montana collection but they are very rare to obtain today.
