Jerry Potts was a drunk and shiftless, dangerous man. But he was also admired by frontiersmen who knew him as being a very able and dangerous man. It is said he killed up to 20 Indians in personal combat and battles. He was a guide for the NWMP (Northwest Mounted Police) of Canada but spent most of his time in the Fort Benton and Fort Whoop-Up, Montana areas. He served the U.S. Military as a guide and Scout as he was part Indian himself. This is a very rare CDV image of him. He wears beaded buckskins and hold a 1873 Winchester rifle.  He also has a fully beaded Indian pouch hanging from his belt and fringed leggings, and a military belt buckle.
