Cabinet photographs of Indian Police are rare and highly collected. This one is of the entire group at Standing Rock Agency in 1889. Period written on the back is: "Indian Police Fort Yates, Dak Jan 18, '89". The man mounted on his horse, back row, extreme left is identified as Major MacLoflin who commanded the Police at the time. The Indian in the middle, up front holding rifle is identified as Red Tommy Hawk. He was the Indian Policeman who shot Sitting Bull when the Police raided Sitting Bull's house on the reservation. Photographs of Red Tommy Hawk are, in themselves, quite rare. Not a perfect condition photograph but WHO CARES!
