« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 20, 2022, 06:18:48 am »
This image is directly from the John James side of the James family. It is a circa 160-1870's tintype of JOHN JAMES. He was a cousin of Jesse and Frank James. He lived in California. It was to these relatives that Frank and Jesse traveled after the Civil War where Jesse recovered from his war wounds. It has a 100% provenance!

Montana Territory / Henry N. Blake, Virginia City
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 18, 2022, 07:28:26 am »
Photograph circa 1886 of Henry N. Blake and his wife. Photograph taken by L.S. Hazeltine, Virginia City, Montana. It is signed on the back by him. I have compared signature to a letter I have signed by him on his stationary at the time. Blake was an Associate Justice of Montana Territory for four and 1/2 years appointed by President Grant serving from 1875 until 1885 .  He became the Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court from 1889-1893.  He continued to be a prominent attorney in Virginia City before and after his service on the Territorial and State Supreme Court. He also worked as a newspaper editor of the MONTANA POST in early days prior to Supreme Court services. He died in 1935 at age 97 in Boston, Massachusetts.   I have the 1887 original of Blake's Virginia City License as an attorney. It is signed by George Gohn who was a butcher, member of the Madison County government and former member of the Montana Vigilantes in the 1860s.

Historic Personalities / John Ringo
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 15, 2022, 07:23:30 am »
This is a 1/9th plate tintype of the 1870-1880 period, cased. Under the cushion on the inside of the case top is a small contemporary slip of paper reading "Property of Fred Towers - John Ringo- Cochise AZ 1880". The back of the image is scratch signed (not printed) John Ringo. Images of Johnny Ringo are controversial but this one has contemporary identification and compares well with other images suppose to be of him.  He was known to have been educated, well dressed, and brash.

Historic Personalities / Rare Frank Rand cabinet photograph
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 15, 2022, 06:43:29 am »
This is a very rare cabinet image to obtain of the outlaw Frank Rand. It has been published but rarely (if ever) become available in original form in ANY condition. I obtained it with the image of him after he killed himself in his cell. They were among other materials of documentation on him. This image was taken after his capture showing him photographed with an UNLOADED gun. He was allowed to do this in order to raise money for his defense.

Please see an earlier photograph of Frank Rand in this section for more information on him or consult the internet. This is an EXTREMELY rare original image of Frank Rand after he killed himself in his jail cell. It has been published but originals are next to impossible to obtain. I was very luck to get this one with the image I will post next.
