Historic Personalities / Capt. E. Chambeau
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 11, 2022, 09:37:47 am »
Large cabinet photograph identified as "Compliments of Capt. E. Chambeau, Old Government Scout". I am researching and will add more if I can find more. He is dressed in a FULL buckskin outfit, heavily decorated with patches, beadwork, leggings, and fringe. He is wearing an Indian Chief's feathered headdress with hair drops. Also wearing moccasins and holding a beautiful gun cover for whatever rifle is within it. It is a spectacular photograph circa 1900.

Hangings and Lynchings / 1933 Lynching
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 11, 2022, 09:16:05 am »
On back of one photo is written "1933- lynching- Bank (cannot make out)". Implication is that the town lynched these men for robbing a bank. They are both white. No identification or area noted.

Miscellaneous / Dayton, Nevada JURY
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 11, 2022, 09:08:02 am »
Male jury in Dayton, Nevada in 1882.  Under image is written "Thurlow Douglas and other members of the Mystic 12". Written on back is "Indian Trial at Dayton in November 1882 convicting Chas.  Genzel for murder of an Indian woman". Four men in photograph are numbered. They are:  1) Thurlow Douglas (Forman?), 2) John Damon, 3) William Roleno, and 4) William Penrose. Photo signed By H.V. Clints as photographer.  I have never seen another photograph of a western jury before so I was interested in buying it for my site here.

Montana Territory / Boring Scenic
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 09, 2022, 04:15:25 pm »
Large stereo of a Bozeman, Montana scenic view. It looks like a ranch on the bottom but I cannot make out much. OK. It is rather boring but maybe someone from Montana will enjoy it and all Montana views are harder and harder to obtain. This one taken by D. Marsh, Bozeman, Montana. It is large format.

Wild West Shows / Family group of Indian Entertainers
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 09, 2022, 04:09:09 pm »
This is a nice group of four American Indians from a same family group. The two men were probably brothers. The seated man was Papa of the baby and husband of the young woman behind and beside him. The men wear buckskin costumes. The baby is in a elaborate shirt and Mom in a beautifully beaded dress. She holds a single shot rifle. The seated man wears some sort of ribbon and metal. The image is by Smith & Hodson, St. Marys, O. (Ohio). These groups generally worked for Wild West Shows or Patent Medicine Shows. They are a FINE looking group. The cabinet is an 1880s albumen.  There is no identification of who they are.

Early albumen cabinet photograph of an older Navajo Indian man wearing a gun and cartridge belt. He may well have been a Scout or Indian Police. Portraits of armed Navajos are quite rare. There is no identification or location. Nice image to find.

Early stereo of the town Of Deadwood, Dakota Territory in 1870s, very early 1880s. It is by "Views in the Black Hills" and titled on the back. "Central City. Deadwood Gulch". It looks mostly the same when Hickok died there in 1876.

Wild West Shows / Great Image of Western Couple but bad identification
« Last post by Emory Cantey on March 09, 2022, 03:29:24 pm »
This is a case in point. If you see an image you like, and price is right for you, buy it! The image on the back is a weak pencil id saying Annie Oakley and Jim Baker (Her husband). It is completely HOOPDELAIDY! Nonsense. It was put there by someone who did not know or who wanted to get more for it by false pretenses. BUYER BEWARE. However, even though the mount is bad, the image is quite nice of a Wild West Show sharp shooting couple in their buckskin outfits and holding rifles circa 1880-1890.

Two RPPC of a circa 1900-1910 execution. In the first one, prisoner is being escorted by two lawmen. He is in handcuffs. There are armed military guards behind them. In the second one, his coffin is being driven away in a wagon surrounded by a large crowd. There is no identifications on either image and no location.
