John Y Nelson was a trapper, hunter and scout over the years. He was married to Chief Spotted Tail's niece. He started with Cody in 1884. He took his entire family with him. In the Cody Show he was the main driver of the Dodge City Stage and he acted in several of the events over the years. He was also the interpreter for the Sioux cast. Here, he is in a photographer's backdrop, on his horse, with a deer over his saddle. The image is a Woodburytype and it was taken during the Cody engagement in London in 1887.
