Rare tintype of Texas Ranger Capt. Junius "June" Peak. circa 1875. He served two terms as City Marshal of Dallas Texas from 1874-1878. He had served as a Confederate soldier during the Civil War and was wounded twice at Chickamauga. Later served as a scout for Nathan Bedford Forrest and John H. Morgan. After the War, he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Dallas prior to becoming City Marshal from 1870-1872.
Texas Ranger Major John B. Jones mustered Peak as a Lieutenant in the Texas Rangers after his terms as Dallas City Marshal ended. Later Jones made him a Captain of his own command, Company B, Frontier Battalion, and he spent time trying to track down the outlaw Sam Bass but never found him. He then moved to San Angelo area fighting Indians. He left the Rangers in 1880. He took a job with the Mexican Central Railway Company. He returned in 1884 and raised horses and cattle on his ranch in Shackleford County, Texas. He moved back to Dallas in 1899 with his wife and children. He worked in Real Estate. He died in 1834.
