Unpublished Wild Bill Hickok

Unpublished Wild Bill Hickok

This is the fourth original, unpublished Bill Hickok I have found in 45 years.    There is simply NO DOUBT the man on the left in this tintype is Hickok.    He is identified as him.  He is wearing all of the cloths he has worn in other images of him (his famous fur hat, his formal black coat, vest, lined wool pants, and boots).   However, the kicker for identification is always Hickok's unusual facial feature; his small stuck out lips giving him his puckered look.    He is known to have grown his mustache to try and hide it but anyone can readily see it regardless.   I believe the man on his right is Alf Johnson who was a member of the acting group with Cody, Hickok, and Omohundro in 1873 (when I believe this photo was taken or early 1874).   Johnson replaced Hickok after a few stage appearances after Hickok left as he was unhappy with acting, shy, and felt embarrassed.    See his expression in this image.  He is not a happy man.
