Anton Holter was a Montana pioneer, businessman, Vigilante, and politician in Montana Territory and Montana State. He built a sawmill in Virginia City, M.T. in the 1860's. At this time he was a member of the Vigilantes there between 1863-1864. He then established several lumber yards in several towns including Helena, Great Falls and Nevada City. In Helena he opened merchandise stores, including his A.M. Holter Hardware Store. He served on Montana's first territorial council and first legislature. He was also on Helena's first school board. He is considered a leading Pioneer in all of Montana.
