CDV Photograph by Gurney & Son, Broadway, NY of Thomas Francis Meagher.   He was a Yankee Brig. General during the Civil War.    After the CW, Meagher was appointed Secretary of Montana Territory and later Acting Governor.    When Montana pioneer John Bozeman was killed by Indians, Meagher organized the Montana Territory Volunteer Militia.    However, he was unable of finding the Indians who killed John Bozeman and the militia fell apart in failure.  He was generally a failure overall as a governor.   While traveling from Fort Benton on a steamship called the G. A. Thompson on the evening of July 1, 1867, he fell overboard and drowned in the Mississippi River.   His body was never recovered.
