I believe this photograph of Calamity Jane was taken when she was working in Wild West Shows and Exhibitions in the 1890-1900 period. She is dressed in a fine wild west show type costume. She has a beaded bib shirt front and beaded cuffs; the shirt is also fringed. She is wearing shotgun chaps and a pistol (probably a Colt) in a slim jim type of holster with the handle facing out. Some of the studio background has been tinted red. I do not know if this photographer originally took this photograph but it was produced by Baker & Johnston in Evanston, Wyoming & Rock Springs, Wyoming. These were sold easily as souvenirs. It is a very well known and published image of her.
