This is an old album page containing two early, unmounted photographs related to The James Family and Jesse James. The top image shows the original James house. The caption below it reads: "The original James house where the fight occurred and the mother's arm was blown off". You can see that it has been moved and the chimney taken off of the end of the house. Frank James had this house physically moved and placed on display at the Words Fair in 1904. After the Fair ended, this house completely disappeared. It has never been found. Any image of this house is extremely RARE. I have seen three and own two. The one I missed actually showed it in St. Louis either just before it was moved to its display or after the Fair. Subsequently, Frank James replaced this house with a prefab house he bought from Sears and had shipped to the farm. That house exists now on the James Farm and Museum.
The second photograph is of Mama Zerelda James Samuel standing beside Jesse's grave on the James farm. The grave appears fairly new and the monument is intact. Later, the monument was badly damaged by souvenir seekers. The grave was moved in 1902 to be next to his wife at the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
These images were sold at auction out of the Wilbur Zink collection.
