Served as a Texas Ranger for four years (1880-1884), Deputy U.S. Marshal in New Mexico in 1884, Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff John Slaughter in Cochise County , Arizona, U.S. Customs Service Officer as a Mounted Inspector in Tucson in 1887, Chief of Police of El Paso, Texas in 1895, Bureau of Immigration as Mounted Chinese Inspector in 1904, first border patrol agent for the U.S. Immigration Service in 1924 for 8 years and retired in 1932 at age 70.  Retired to Tombstone, Arizona in 1932 until his death on May 7, 1947, age 85.  This image descended to his daughter and son-in-law until it was presented to a friend who had a western collection with other artifacts that had belonged to him.
