This is a tinted CDV image of the 1860-1870 period. It is of what I believe is a Canadian Metis Chief. He is wearing a combined Indian and European costume. The Metis were a mixed ancestry people in French Canada. The European side was French and the other side Indigenous Canadian Indian. They formed their own "tribe" with their own language, customs, etc. and in the 1980's were recognized as an indigenous tribe of their own by law.
