This is a nice studio, CDV size cabinet photograph of the 1880-1890 period. Wide brim western hat, revolver in holster on His left hand side, and holding a single shot rolling block rifle. Hunter, cowman, frontiersman, who knows? Nice photograph. The strange thing is that someone using a fountain pen has tried to completely eliminate the photographers mark on the back. I can read John C. Guteas (?), Peoples Art Gallery, San Francisco, California. Why try and ruin the mark? Horrible to do this to any historic image. Stupidity.
