Vnkle (or Vinkle) Bird is written in contemporary pencil on the back of this image taken by Mittie S. McCrary in Southwest City, Missouri. Also written in the same hand is: "Bank Robber", "Picture of Bird taken in the 1890 ties", "A bold bad man". He is armed with a 1892 Winchester rifle and a holstered revolver. He wears two bandoleers; one with rifle ammo and another with revolver ammo. I have tried for years to find out who he was with no luck. On a lark or the real thing? One of my old buddies though.
