Here is large cabinet image of Stephen H. Meek. It is an albumen image of the 1880's period. He is shown here with his dog. The image was taken by Lewis Heller in Fort Jones, California. Meek is identified as a "Pioneer, Hunter and Trapper of 1833". At any rate, he is a great example of a real mountain man of the early American western movement. He is holding a single shot rifle and he is in full buckskin clothing. Note his long hair and long, full beard. I would say he is in his late 60's or early 70's.
