As far as I know today, this is the only in death image of Archie Clement, famous Quantrill guerrilla and personal friend of Frank James. He was killed in Lexington, Mo. in 1866, in a running gun battle in the street. His eyes have been painted on the negative by the photographer to make him seem alive. This was a common thing to do in that period. The CDV, albumen image was taken by Saunders City Art Gallery, Lexington, Mo.
