When I saw this photograph, I really wanted to have it. This is serious history. It is marked on the front and the back that it is the LAST Old Stage Station left on the old Santa Fe Trail in N.M. It is an albumen photograph and probably dates in the late 1880s. Stages did not last long and were eliminated by the rail road. It is in a rather bleak desert area. It would be long gone by now without a trace. Someone thought to preserve it in this photograph. Many thanks to whom ever. There is no photographer's mark. These stations were a stopping point for the long stage ride. Passengers could get off, relieve themselves, and got a hot meal to fortify them for the continued hot and dusty ride to their designation. It was also a place where the stage company had fresh horses to exchange for the tired ones. This is the first image I have personally seen like this. I am so glad to continue to preserve it!
