Reading about this man blew my mind.   I have never read about a business man being into more things than Power.   He was a Montana Territory Pioneer and a Montana Statesman.  He started out as a surveyor in Dakota until 1860 and then a trader on the Mississippi between 1861-1867.   In 1867, he came to Ft. Benton, M.T. and opened a general mercantile firm.   It was not long after that his firm and one other dominated the trade on the Northern Plains by 1870.  In the late 1870's he had a steam ship company and by 1879 a stage coach company that covered northern and central Montana Territory.    He then moved to Helena, M.T. and became the President of the American National Bank.  In 1884 he became a Republican delegate in the constitutional convention.  He became Governor of Montana in 1889 and the First Senator between 1890-1895.   All during these times, he invested in many other businesses and projects (look him up on internet).  He died March 16, 1923.
