Cabinet photograph from the 1880's in albumen. The man holds a 1866 Winchester rifle and has two revolvers tucked into his belt. He has on a fringed, western jacket and a belt with a military belt buckle. He is completely identified on the back in contemporary pencil. I cannot read it all as some obscured or missing but here goes: "Jerome Reid, Bloody Bear. Indian Scout, Tracker. Sioux interpreter who lived among them. Hated Comanche - took pride in dispatching them. For this given the name Bloody Bear. Hired by Cattle Companies in Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming to (get) rid of rustlers. Killed 1886... leading into Montana , something, something." Photographers mark worn off. I cannot read enough of the mark to say what it is.
