After the Apaches surrendered and were defeated in Arizona, they were first transported to a sort of holding area prison in St. Augustine, Florida.   Granted, the Apaches were a ruthless and often cruel group of Indians during the Apache Wars.   However, Florida was an equally cruel place to send them.   Apaches were desert Indians and the wet, damp, disease riddled, swamp area of Florida was not even close to what they were use to.   Many died of malaria and other diseases.    Life was miserable for them there.   Later, they were moved to a reservation near Ft. Still in Oklahoma Territory where they  were in a much better environment.  This stereo shows a group of Apaches when they first arrived in their Florida confinement.   The stereo is by Florida Views, St. Augustine, Fla.   It is titled  "A picture of the Indian Cut throats & scalpers".
