Sad old photograph but virtually all photographs of the Hatfield family and Devil Anse were personal, family images, not produced for the public. This image was taken outside and is quite faded. Several of the men are armed outside of Anse's home. The back of the photograph is identified: "Devil Anse Hatfield and followers". The man standing on the far left is Devil Anse. The others are not identified but I am sure they are mostly family. Anse was William Anderson Hatfield (September 9, 1839 to January 6, 1921). He was the Patriarch of the Hatfield family during the famous Hatfield - McCoy feud. You can read all you want about the feud on the internet or in several published books. I was glad to find and purchased ANY photograph of Anse as they are extremely rare to find today.
