This is an original 1/6th plate tintype of Pete Spence about the time he went to prison. This image came out of one of his family's albums. It also came with a clipped signature of his. His real name was Elliot Larkin Ferguson (1852-1914). He was a friend and associate of Frank and Tom McLaury and Ike Clanton of Tombstone, Arizona. He was suspected of being involved in the murder of Morgan Earp. He also pistol whipped and killed a man while he was serving as a deputy Sheriff in Georgetown, N.M., served 8 years in prison and was pardoned. This photograph is probably from this 1883 period of arrest. He spent his life after prison operating a goat ranch in Globe, Arizona and died in 1914.
